Treatment of chronic hemorrhoids (those that flare up from time to time)

There’s only one goal for most anyone trying to get rid of hemorrhoids. End the pain and suffering, but in cases of severe hemorrhoids, such as thrombosed, prolapsed, or strangulated hemorrhoids, a surgical procedure may be the only treatment option left. The pain associated with thrombosed external hemorrhoids, (which is better known in the medical field as a perianal haematoma) is usually quite severe and is instantly relieved by doctor’s incision and evacuation of the clot.

4. Medical Procedures

  • Cryosurgery: a frozen tip of a cryoprobe is utilized for destroying hemorrhoidal tissues.
  • Dilation: stretching the muscle of the anal sphincter. Although treatment is no longer popular, it can be successfully applied to certain cases of strangulated hemorrhoids.
  • Laser, Infared or BICAP Coagulation: cauterizing the affected tissue with laser, infrared beam, or electricity.
  • Rubber Band Ligation: blood supply is cut off to an internal hemorrhoid by applying elastic bands. Within a few weeks, the withered hemroid is sloughed off during regular bowel movements.
  • Sclerotherapy (injection therapy): sclerosant or hardening agent is injected into the hemorrhoids causing the vein walls to collapse in turn causing the hemorrhoids to shrivel up.

5. Surgery For Hemorroids

  • Hemorrhoidectomy: this is a true surgical procedure for excising and removing hemorrhoids.
  • Laser, Infared or BICAP Coagulation: cauterizing the affected tissue with laser, infrared beam, or electricity.
