The Definition of Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids or piles that lie directly above the anal sphincter become swollen and or
inflamed. These veins and arteries normally contract and expand naturally, helping maintain the regulation of
the body. Blood vessels may be stretched beyond their capacity, disabling their ability to contract causing a
hemorrhoid flare up. More than three-quarters of people in the U S have hemorrhoids at some time in their
lives. The peak age is between 45 to 65 years.
