Hemorrhoids (US English) (HEM-uh-roids), also called Piles, Hemroids or Haemorrhoids (UK) hem·or·rhoid are swollen and inflamed veins in the anus and lower rectum resulting from straining during bowel movement, strenuous exercise, increased pressure on the veins during pregnancy, sitting for long periods of time, amongst others.

1. n. itching or painful mass of dilated veins in swollen anal tissue.
2. The pathological condition in which such painful masses occur.

[From Middle English] emoroides, hemorrhoids, from Old French emoroides, from Latin haemorrhoidae, from Greek haimorrhoïdes

WHAT ARE HEMORRHOIDS?

In a way, we all have hemorrhoids, which are the pillow-like vein clusters lying just under the mucous membranes lining the lowest part of the anus and rectum. The condition most of us call hemorrhoids or “roids” can develop when those veins become distended and swollen, similar to varicose veins in the legs.

HEMORRHOIDS CLASSIFCATION

Hemorrhoids have three classifications and may be located inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids), and they can also develop under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids) and (prolapsed hemroids).
hemorrhoid photos

WHAT ARE INTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS

Internal hemorrhoids often are small, swollen veins in the wall of the anal canal. Internal hemorrhoids often are small, swollen veins in the wall of the anal canal. But they can be large, sagging veins that bulge out of the anus all the time. They can be painful if they bulge out and are squeezed by the anal muscles. They may be very painful if the blood supply to the hemorrhoid is cut off. If hemorrhoids bulge out, you also may see mucus on the toilet paper or stool.[6]

>> SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF INTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS

The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids is bright red blood covering the stool, a condition known as hematochezia, on toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl.[2] They may protrude through the anus. Symptoms of external hemorrhoids include painful swelling or lump around the anus.

WHAT ARE EXTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS

External hemorrhoids can get irritated and clot under the skin, causing a hard painful lump. This is called an external thrombosed hemorrhoid, or clotted hemorrhoid. …more

>> SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS

Hemorrhoids are usually present with itching, rectal pain, rectal bleeding.[2] Other hemorrhoid symptoms include mucous discharge or fecal incontinence.[3] In most cases, symptoms will resolve within a few days. External hemorrhoids are painful, while internal hemorrhoids usually are not unless they become thrombosed or necrotic.

HEMORRHOIDS DURING PREGNANCY

Pregnancy and hemorrhoids are common, more so in the third trimester. Some women will get hemroids for the first time while they’re pregnant. It is likely to occur more frequently for women who have had hemorrhoids from pregnancy once already. Hemorrhoids may also develop while pushing during the second stage of labor and are a common early postpartum complaint. So when it comes to hemroids and pregnancy, remember, in most cases, with careful attention to avoiding constipation, hemorrhoids that developed during pregnancy will begin to resolve relatively quickly. When it comes to the health of mother and fetus, be careful! It is usually best bet to use an all natural hemroid treatment. =>

HEMORRHOIDS AND CHILDREN

Some potential childhood hemorrhoids can be caused by a range of conditions.

  • Constipation
  • Sitting on the toilet too long
  • Crohn’s Disease (severe disorder of the lower intestinal tract)

While there are many causes of hemroids that are relatively normal, childhood hemorrhoids are for the most part, rare. => It is equally more important to check for other problems if your kids have hemorrhoid symptoms by seeing a doctor.

BLEEDING HEMORRHOIDS

bleeding hemorrhoids    BE SURE that if rectal bleeding occurs, you are diagnosed with internal bleeding hemorrhoids because rectal bleeding may also be a sign of very serious illness that needs attention.

For most people trying to get rid of hemorrhoids or battling small internal bleeding hemorrhoids, treatment should only require over-the-counter medications, pain relievers and a change in diet and toilet habits. Mostly, the bleeding internal hemroids shouldn’t grow big enough to be overly bothersome, large hemorrhoids can bulge and become exposed through the anus opening. They may find their way back in post bowel movement or they might remain out, which you may be able to push them back in. Internal bleeding hemorrhoids are enclosed in a mucous membrane and occur above the dentate line in the anal canal. Rectal bleeding is the most common of internal bleeding hemroid symptoms. When wiping, you may notice bright red bleeding on the paper, red[blood] in the water and blood on the stool surface.

HEMROIDS TREATMENTS

There is a broad range of affective treatments for hemorrhoids. Some are inexpensive homeopathic home remedies such as sitz baths or epson salts and expensive hemorrhoid treatments you might find at a treatment center like Mayo Clinic. Most treatments can be used for children, men and women young and old; also for pregnant women, before and after delivery. There are at home natural hemorrhoids treatment such as garlic and aloe vera. Even ice for hemorrhoids can be a be extremely beneficial. Next there are hemorrhoids treatment creams, ointments and Vitamin e you can get at a local CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid; also online stores.

An early stage internal or external hemorrhoid, [bleeding or not] should first try a non surgical approach using ointments or medications, a homeopathy remedy or a combination of them. A late stage condition may require hemorrhoids surgery. Always remember, it is best to maintain a high fiber diet and regular exercise.

treating hemorrhoids    ALWAYS CHECK with a doctor for any health & medical advice, including hemorrhoids. [especially for children and during pregnancy]

It doesn’t make a difference if a treatment is top rated or a “top seller” or “top rated”. The only thing that matters is, how effectively will it heal hemorrhoids for you. Body chemistry are different from person to person which explains why some treatments work well for some people and will have no affect on others. Remember, the goal is the same; get rid of hemroids fast.

CAUSES OF HEMORRHOIDS

How do you get hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids develop from increased pressure in the veins of the anus or rectum. The contributing factors can be:

  • Straining during bowel movement
  • Pregnancy
  • Aging
  • Obesity
  • Heart disease
  • Liver disorders
  • Heavy lifting
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Constipation
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Eating spicy foods
  • Weight Lifting Exercises
  • Cigarette mmoking during bowel movements
  • Improper posture while sitting

  • Prolonged sitting
  • Diarrhea
  • Pressure and strain
  • Anal Sex
  • Vomiting
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Overuse of laxatives
  • Congestive disorders
  • Inactive Living
  • Heredity
  • Reading while on the toilet
  • Sitting on hard surfaces
  • High blood pressure
Researchers are still not sure what causes hemorrhoids. Having “weak” veins, leading to hemorrhoids and other varicose veins can also be inherited.

Amazingly, so many people want to know how to heal hemroids and for many, a simple lifestyle change can make a huge impact in getting rid of the hemorrhoids. Walking every day, don’t sit for long periods of time without taking quick breaks and walk. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and reduce straining through heavy exercise or lifting. Eating more fiber through natural foods or get your fiber through psylium husk will help eliminate constipation, which is a vital ingredient to hemroids treatment.

THROMBOSED HEMORRHOIDS

- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -

Thrombosis
noun. throm·bo·sis     /THrämˈbōsis/ – Local coagulation or clotting of the blood in a part of the circulatory system at the site of its formation in a blood vessel
thromboses, plural

- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -

Thrombosis is the formation of a clot of coagulated blood in a blood vessel. There are many times when hemorrhoids become compressed with blood. This means that blood is flowing in but it does not flow out as easily creating a lot of swelling and pain.

Pregnant women and young adults are statistically the most likely to suffer from thrombosed external hemorrhoids. However, any hemorrhoid can develop a blood clot at any point or multiple times in one’s lifetime. The biggest causative factors in thrombosed external hemorrhoids at this point seem to be lots of straining and poor circulation. Reported risk factors for thrombosed external hemorrhoid include; a recent battle with constipation, traumatic vaginal deliveries & straining and poor circulation in general. Although common, it remains a under-studied studied topic.

STRANGULATED HEMORRHOIDS

What is a strangulated hemorrhoid?
A strangulated hemorrhoids condition is the result of a hemorrhoid’s blood supply being cut off due to being trapped by the anal sphincter muscle. So if the anal sphincter muscle goes into spasm and traps a prolapsed hemorrhoid outside the anal opening, then the hemorrhoid becomes a strangulated hemorrhoid.

A Wearisome Search
Getting rid of hemorrhoids can be a frustrating process regardless of how severe they are. It’s not uncommon for patients to give up the search for a lasting cure when multiple hemroid treatments fail to work. This attitude of having ‘hit a wall’ is usually associated with fringe therapies that have a low success-rate. Some of these methods include:

  • Infrared Light Therapy – Intense, multi-spectral lights used to cauterize and destroy affected tissues.
  • Cryotherapy – Similar to infrared therapy, cryotherapy uses frozen probes in an attempt to heal hemorrhoids.
  • Acupuncture Therapy – Medal needles inserted into the body to control the flow of energy.

When these costly and time-consuming options fail to succeed, patients can become discouraged, leading to a defeatist attitude. This way of thinking can be detrimental to healing hemorrhoids because it results in negligent care—and negligent care can lead to painful, costly surgery. Patients can avoid this pitfall by sticking with remedies for hemorrhoids that have highest success-rates.

Don’t Be Embarrassed
There’s no need for anyone to be embarrassed about hemorrhoids. Although it manifests itself near a private part of the human body, there is nothing private about this medical condition. Nearly 50% of all adults will develop hemorrhoids due to natural causes. Considering this figure, it’s important to keep in mind the huge population of sufferers needing hemorrhoids relief. This community—comprised of millions of people that have already cured themselves—provides unique and valuable insights into which treatments actually work.

WHO GETS HEMORRHOIDS MOST OFTEN?

+ Young and middle-aged people
+ 45-65 year olds get hemorrhoids more frequently than others
+ Those with a family history
+ Pregnant women
+ Whites more than nonwhites
+ Rural and suburb dwellers more than city folks
+ Higher pay scale earners

Hemorrhoids is one of the most common ailments affecting men and women alike — more than fifty percent of the world’s population will deal with hemorrhoids at some point in their lives. Most commonly hemorrhoids occur after the age of 30, but are known to affect people of all ages.

HEMORRHOIDS SURGERY & OFFICE PROCEDURES

Nonoperative management (office procedures) + Minor operative procedures

  • Procedure for Prolapse Hemorrhoids (PPH), aka, Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy – A 15- to 35- minute minimally invasive procedure is the new gold standard for hemorrhoidectomy, according to American and European experts in the field. The procedure, known as PPH (procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids) stapled hemorrhoidectomy, combines hemorrhoidal devascularization and repositioning to return the veins to the anal canal.
    http://www.lacolon.com/patient-education/procedure-for-hemorrhoids-turning-skeptics-into-believers
  • Injection Sclerotherapy - A procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations (vascular malformations) such as hemorrhoids. A medicine is injected into the vessels, which makes them shrink.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sclerotherapy
  • Rubber Band Ligation - Rubber band ligation is an outpatient treatment for second-degree internal hemorrhoids.
In this procedure, a small band is applied to the base of the hemorrhoid, stopping the blood supply to the hemorrhoidal mass. The hemorrhoid will then shrivel and die within 2 to 7 days. The shriveled hemorrhoid and band will fall off during normal bowel movements. Rubber band ligation is a popular procedure, as it involves less pain than surgical treatments of hemorrhoids, as well as a shorter recovery period. Its success rate is between 60 and 80%.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_band_ligation
  • Infrared Photocoagulation. - A special device is used to burn hemorrhoidal tissue – Infrared photocoagulation (also called coagulation therapy) is a medical procedure used to treat small- and medium-sized hemorrhoids. During the procedure, the doctor uses a device that creates an intense beam of infrared light. Heat created by the infrared light causes scar tissue, which cuts off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid. The hemorrhoid dies, and a scar forms on the wall of the anal canal. The scar tissue holds nearby veins in place so they don’t bulge into the anal canal.
    http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/infrared-photocoagulation-for-hemorrhoids
  • Laser Hemorrhoidectomy - “Laser is just a fancy way of cutting tissue. It is not much different than using a knife or dissecting scissors. Studies comparing laser hemorrhoidectomy to conventional hemorrhoidectomy show no advantage with the laser.”
    http://cccrs.tripod.com/LaserHem.html
  • Electrocoagulation - Has proven useful in the treatment of Grades I-II hemorrhoids. Electrocoagulation techniques all rely on coagulation and fixation of hemorrhoidal tissue at the level of the anorectal ring.
    http://www.fascrs.org/physicians/education/core_subjects/2008/hemorrhoids_fissure_in_ano/
  • Anal Stretch/Dilation - The anal stretch procedure is based on the belief that hemorrhoids are due to a narrowing of the anal canal caused by a fibrous deposit (“pecten band”) that results in abnormal straining and subsequent venous congestion leading to hemorrhoids. This procedure is performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, and the anal canal is stretched until four fingers can be inserted. Most authorities today advocate abandoning this approach.
    http://www.fascrs.org/physicians/education/core_subjects/2008/hemorrhoids_fissure_in_ano/
  • Cryotherapy - Cryotherapy uses cold coagulation (nitrous oxide or liquid nitrogen) to destroy the hemorrhoidal cushions. However, this procedure results in profuse discharge associated with a foul smell, irritation and pain due to necrosis, and the healing time is very long. In addition, if it is not properly performed, destruction of the anal sphincter can cause anal stenosis and incontinence. For these reasons, cryotherapy is no longer recommended for the treatment of internal hemorrhoids.
    http://www.fascrs.org/physicians/education/core_subjects/2008/hemorrhoids_fissure_in_ano/
  • Atomizing Hemorrhoids - A new technique to remove hemorrhoids is called atomizing. The Atomizer™ is a medical device that was developed specifically to atomize tissue. The term “atomizing hemorrhoids” was coined because the hemorrhoids are actually reduced to minute particles into a fine mist or spray, which is immediately vacuumed away. An innovative waveform of electrical current and a specialized electrical probe, the Atomizer Wand™, was created for this purpose.

Hemorrhoids Surgery

  • Haemorrhoidal Artery Ligation Operation (HALO) - The Haemorrhoidal Artery Ligation Operation (HALO) is a new operation designed to eradicate piles without the need for cutting and in some cases without a general anaesthetic. The operation uses a miniature ultrasound device to locate the blood vessels supplying the haemorrhoids. The aim of the operation is to cut off the blood supply to the haemorrhoids. This is achieved by placing a stitch around each blood vessel. Over the following few days the piles shrink away and the symptoms resolve.
    http://www.bmihealthcare.co.uk
  • Doppler Ligation - A new technique based on Doppler-guided ligation of the terminal branches of the superior hemorrhoidal artery was introduced in 1995 as an alternative to hemorrhoidectomy. The Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal artery ligation technique uses a special proctoscope bearing a Doppler transducer that allows identification and suture ligation of the hemorrhoidal arteries.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16228837
  • The (DG) HAL/RAR® System - the first system to utilize minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat the source of hemorrhoidal disease without surgical excision, stapling or banding. It is a singlesystem that offers two procedure options, (Doppler Guided) Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation and Recto Anal Repair (Proctoplasty).

FIBER FOR HEMORRHOIDS

Getting the right amount of daily fiber is crucial to your road of recovery from hemorrhoids so start including high fiber food sources in your diet. Not only is fiber intake great for passing stools with less pain but fiber generally does the body good.

- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dietary Fiber
Dietary fiber, dietary fibre, or sometimes roughage is the indigestible portion of plant foods having two main components:

1. soluble (prebiotic, viscous) fiber that is readily fermented in the colon into gases and physiologically active byproducts
2. insoluble fiber that is metabolically inert, absorbing water as it moves through the digestive system, easing defecation.

- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -

SOLUBLE FIBER

Soluble fibers slow down digestion by attracting water and forming a gel. Soluble fiber makes you feel full and also delays the emptying of your stomach, which is great for weight control. Soluble fibers can also help lower LDL (“bad”) blood cholesterol by interfering with the absorption of dietary cholesterol.

INSOLUBLE FIBER

Insoluble fiber is known as the “gut-healthy” fiber for its laxative affect and how it adds bulk to your one’s diet. This helps prevent constipation which is a key to healing hemorrhoids. Insoluble fibers don’t dissolve in water, which allows them to pass through your system relatively intact, speeding up the passage of food and waste.

4 CHECK POINTS FOR A GREAT NATURAL HEMORRHOIDS TREATMENT

Can treat the hemorrhoid along with easing the pain
At the top of the list of any hemorrhoid remedy is relieving pain and discomfort, but oftentimes a drug store brand names and natural home remedies for hemorrhoids will only alleviate the symptoms. With an end goal of getting rid of hemorrhoids completely, the better hemorrhoid product would be one that helps heal hemroids along with relieving hemroid pain and discomfort.

Can be applied easily
Ease of application is another big plus for many people, especially with a stringent work schedule. Obviously asking an employer for a sitz bath break a few times a day won’t go over very well.
The more an affective hemroid treatment is “hassle-free” and allowing more of a normal daily routine, the better. Especially for the full-time working population.

Should be all natural
When it comes to ailments in the body, mother nature usually knows the safest way, but remember that all hemorrhoid treatments can have negative side affects depending on who is using it and what their own situation is. This goes for doctor prescribed hemorrhoid medication as well as over-the-counter (OTC) brand names, ointments and home cures that use natural healing herbs and remedies.

Treatment should be non-invasive
Surgical procedures should be a last resort for those with thromboses or prolapsed hemorrhoids that have run out of options. Even in extreme cases, there may be a choice; non-invasive or minimally invasive. Certainly the completely non-invasive method would be a recommended choice as it is usually the safest.

ANAL ITCHING

The exact cause of your itching may not be known but any condition that increases moisture in the anal area can result in anal itching. Anal itching can be caused by certain foods and drink such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, chocolate, yogurts and milk. Caffeine rich drinks such as coffee, sodas and tea can also induce an anal itch. Another way of getting an itchy anal is by wearing tightly fitting clothing that rubs against the anal area making it irritated.

Here is an all natural product that will get rid of the itch.

ANAL FISSURES

An anal fissure is a small tear in the skin that lines the anus. Most anal fissures are caused by stretching of the anal mucosa beyond its capability.[7] An anal fissure may occur when you pass hard or large stools during a bowel movement. An anal fissure typically causes pain and bleeding with bowel movements.[8] Fissures are a common condition of the anus and anal canal and are responsible for 6-15% of the visits to a colon and rectal (colorectal) surgeon.[9] Anal fissures equally affect both women and men, old and young.

HORSE, CAT & DOG HEMORRHOIDS

Information on the subject is limited and controversial, however it is very important, the moment your pet displays signs or symptoms of hemorrhoids, that you schedule a visit with a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment.. Secondly, it isn’t so easy to even find hemorrhoid treatments for pets. These people say that pets can in fact get hemroids and one way of getting rid of them is with pure essential oils. => read what they have to say.

[ Dog Hemorrhoids ]

A lot of people including professionals say “dogs don’t or can’t get hemorrhoids”.

These people and professionals have a different opinion:

[ Cat Hemorrhoids ]

Cats tend to get constipated and in turn, strain when they relieve themselves. Often times, this can cause the small blood vessels to burst leaving some blood in the litter box. Although infrequently, there can be light bleeding even when the feline is resting. You should avoid trying to treat your cat’s hemorrhoids by yourself at home because other severe diseases mirror the same symptoms of hemorrhoids; for example, colitis or distended anus.

If you think you feline has hemroids or maybe you saw blood in the stool, then it would be wise to take your cat to the veterinarian for an examination, prognosis and treatment options.

[ Horse Hemorrhoids ]

The most likely cause of a horse getting hemorrhoids is from a lack of fiber and getting constipated, also maybe eating excessive amounts of binding type foods; i.e., cheese. Probably a good reason why there is so little information on the subject is because a horse’s diet consists of mainly fiber. This goes to show how important fiber is for curing hemorrhoids naturally.
